Our Story

Saving Pets at Risk was formed in 2005 by Wes Beck and a handful of animal activists in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The SPAR volunteers save abandoned, neglected, abused, injured, unwanted dogs & cats. As the animals heal their spirits and often their bodies diligent efforts are made to find permanent homes in which they will find their second chance and thrive.

All SPAR animals are examined and treated by a veterinarian where they are spay/neutered, vaccinated, given heartworm preventatives, and micro-chipped. We strive to provide temporary foster care until our pets can be placed in a loving forever home.

We support activities such as spay and neutering clinics, adoption fairs, foster homes, sponsoring, volunteering, fund raising and donation in which we depend upon for our success.

We also do community outreach by assisting people who need temporary help in providing for their cats and dogs. In addition to community outreach, we provide education and information to the general public concerning the health and the well being of their pets.

Due to the overwhelming numbers of homeless and abandoned animals, we began transporting dogs to no-kill rescue centers out of state. So far this year we have rescued and transported 53 dogs and puppies and re-homed many dogs and cats in neighboring states.

Saving Pets At Risk, Inc. is a non-profit 501 (c) (3), charitable rescue corporation receiving tax-deductible contributions dedicated to finding homes for homeless and abandoned animals in Shawnee, OK and surrounding areas.
