Have you created a warm, safe home for your family?
What about a kind heart? We bet you have one of those!
Do you sometimes find yourself caring about animals a little more than the next guy?
Well, you just might be someone that would make a wonderful Pet-Foster for Saving Pets at Risk!
• Here’s Why We Utilize Pet-Fosters •
We are a rescue, not a shelter.
• We want to ensure we don’t have large sums of money tied up in paying the overhead costs that come with maintaining a facility.
We want all the donations to go to the care of our rescue pets.
• A dog, for example, can suffer depression after being abandoned & homeless but it’s being with a loving, pet-foster family that can make all the difference.
An in-home living arrangement is best when transitioning to their forever home.
• Regaining trust, finding confidence by feeling safe, socialization that comes from being with children & other pets, & the fosters provide honest feedback that helps SPAR decide what type of forever family will be the best fit for the pet.
The benefits the rescues receive from living with pet-foster families are endless.
• Here’s What Your Foster-Pet Will Need From You •
• We rely on our pet-fosters until our animals are adopted, recover from a surgery or illness. Depending on the situation, fostering is typically a commitment of a couple of weeks to several months before placed on a SPAR Transport or in a permanent home.
• Some of our wonderful rescues are very shy, timid or apprehensive and need TLC. Our fosters must have patience, show gentle kindness, be consistently attentive to their needs and provide a safe environment for the animal.
• As you no doubt know, we often rescue animals from abusive situations, and these animals need to have human affection to overcome their fear of people. Once they feel safe, this usually doesn’t take long.
• Our pet-fosters provide shelter, food, exercise, grooming, and most importantly love & consistent, daily attention to their foster placements. SPAR fosters follow all guidelines outlined in the foster contract as well as any direction given by the Foster Program Director.
• SPAR pays for all vet care, but transportation to vet appointments is a necessary expectation for the foster.
• Training & socialization is strongly encouraged as it improves the pet’s chances for adoption. A focus on house training, walking on a leash, and riding in a car is required. Sit, stay & doing his own dishes would be great too!
• We work within our fosters’ needs & recognize that life-happens some exceptions might need to be made.
• Here’s What We Commit To Our Pet-Fosters •
• Our Foster Program Director provides directives, suggestions, advice & responds quickly to any concerns or questions you might have. All fosters are provided with the personal contact information of the director.
• SPAR assumes all financial responsibility for veterinary care, to include immunizations and routine medications, as well as any emergency vet care. We like to be “in the loop”! Therefore, all arrangements for veterinary care must be made with a SPAR officer before the pet is treated.
• SPAR will provide a crate, pet carrier, pet bed, food or other supplies if needed. (But hey, ya might want to invest in a lint roller to use on your dark sweaters, though!)
• We work with the pet-foster to provide alternative placement in the event the foster goes on vacation or another temporary situation arises.
• Our pet-fosters are never truly alone in this rewarding endeavor. SPAR is in this with you as you are getting your foster-pet ready to become someone’s best friend in their very own home FUREVER HOME!
You play such a significant role in the rescuing of an amazing animal.
